Membrane Technology for
Post-Combustion Carbon Capture from Coal-Fired Power Plants
Group 2: Tim Becker, Hye-In Son, Angel Asante, Nadeeka Karunaratne
EFFECTS OF OPERATING MODE AND PRESSURE RATIO
- A smaller membrane area is needed for a greater the feed-to-permeate pressure ratio.
- A larger specific energy of the system results in a better CO2 separation
- The compression operating mode can perform a better CO2 separation for the same membrane area than the vacuum operating mode, but the vacuum mode requires less energy for operation and displays a relatively high CO2 purity compared to the compression mode or the combined mode.
- A membrane whose CO2/N2 selectivity is high uses up less energy for the same degree of carbon dioxide separation, whether it is the compression or the vacuum mode.
